Walking for autism awareness

Glendale, Calif.-based Los Angeles FCU joined more than 11,000 walkers and advocates at the 16th annual “Autism Speaks: Shine a Light” fundraiser charity walk at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. In five years, employees and members have raised more than $713,000 for the cause.

San Antonio-based Security Service FCU and its Charitable Foundation donated $10,000 to help Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas train 1,000 volunteer mentors and another 1,000 San Antonio area parents.

As part of F5 Bike Everywhere Day, Seattle-based Verity CU hosted two morning cycling celebration stations, from which it greeted bicyclists with free water, energy bars, bananas, and bicycling goodies for fun and safety.

Awarded for 'LIFE'

Virginia CU, Richmond, Va., assisted a team from Lee Davis High School in preparing for a DECA competition entry on financial education. The team created a comprehensive financial education program called “LIFE – Leaping Into Financial Education,” which won second place in the State and International DECA competitions.

Dream big

Arlington-based Texas Trust CU awarded $1,000 scholarships to each of the 87 inaugural graduates of Arlington Collegiate High School. The students received the scholarships for earning their associate degree while simultaneously earning a high school diploma.

Scholarships awarded

Educators CU, Mt. Pleasant, Wis., celebrated success and excellence at its 2018 scholarship recipient dinners in Janesville and Milwaukee. The CU awarded scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each to 35 graduating seniors who attend schools in its 11-county service area. It was the largest group of scholarship winners in the history of this program.

Hartford FCU, Hartford, Conn., partners with Enterprise Car Sales to offer members quality used cars. As part of a member promotion, Enterprise Car Sales made a $1,000 donation to The Village for Families & Children on behalf of Hartford Federal.

SECU of Maryland gives back

SECU Maryland, Linthicum, Md., received the 2018 James W. Rouse Excellence in Diversity Award for Midsize Employers by the Chesapeake Human Resources Association. Separately, the SECU MD Foundation awarded $2,000 scholarships to 5 students enrolled in Morgan State University’s Graves School of Business, and the SECU MD Foundation Golf Classic raised more than $74,000 for the Foundation’s scholarship programs.

Fisher House donation

Andrews FCU, Suitland, Md., once again partnered with the Armed Forces Financial Network to present $6,000 in gift cards distributed to families living at the Fisher House. The funds help defray travel costs and other much needed necessities for military members. Separately, the CU was a sponsor for the 2018 Joint Base McGuireDix-Lakehurst “Power in the Pines” Air Show.
