Kinecta reads to kids

Manhattan Beach, Calif.-based Kinecta CU and the LA Galaxy teamed up to read books to more than 200 second and third grade students at the StubHub Center in celebration of National Read Across America Day. Kinecta earlier this year launched a major partnership with the Major League Soccer franchise.

Employees of TruStone Financial FCU, Plymouth, Minn., raised $724 for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare. The TruStone Financial Foundation matched these funds dollar-for-dollar for a total donation of $1,448 to support children with complex, rare and traumatic conditions.

In Laurel, Md., Tower FCU’s TowerCares Foundation donated $20,000 to the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training to provide funds for three computer rooms at MCVET’s facility for homeless veterans in Baltimore.

People's CU, Middletown, R.I., donated nearly $400 to the Kiwanis Club of Aquidneck Island. Funds were raised through employee dress down days for one month, called Casual for a Cause.

Coming soon: New HQ

New England FCU, Williston, Vt., announced plans to create a new corporate office in South Burlington. Occupancy is expected by the end of the year. The core and shell of the acquired building is constructed to LEED GOLD standards and NEFCU is making additional investments in LEED design for the construction of the interior space.

Indianapolis-based Indiana Members CU gave $2,587 to Brownsburg Community Schools in Brownsburg, Ind., as part of an ongoing school spirit debit card program. Separately, the Indiana Members Foundation’s 9th annual Bowl-A-Thon raised $6,600, and IMCU gave $10,000 to Pink Ribbon Connection as part of its exclusive Cancer Awareness Debit Card Program.

Hanscom helps put kids to bed (during a nor'easter!)

Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., sponsored a Build-a-Bed event. Approximately 100 volunteers from the Hanscom Air Force Base community braved a nor’easter to construct 52 beds for area children in need. A Bed for Every Child, an initiative of the Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, distributed the beds.

Mountain America passes it along

West Jordan, Utah-based Mountain America CU and the Utah Jazz said Bateman Horne Center, which helps those impacted by ME/CFS and Fibromyalgia, was this season’s final recipient of the “Pass It Along” program, which awarded 5 local organizations with grants of $5,000 each. Separately, MACU donated $15,000 to St. Luke’s Health Foundation to make good on its pledge to give $50 to a charity for every 3-pointer made by the Broncos men’s basketball team in the 2018 season.

Classroom heroes

San Diego County CU continues honoring local teachers through SDCCU Classroom Heroes, launched in partnership with ABC 10News and iHeartMedia. The latest honoree was Nancy Magor of Avondale Elementary School, who won a $500 SDCCU Visa gift card. Separately, SDCCU served as presenting sponsor of the 49th annual county spelling bee.

Members Exchange CU, Jackson, Miss., partnered with Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital to host a Miracle Workers Coin Drive, which raised $3,500 for the hospital.
