CU in the newspaper
Pacific Service CU, Concord, Calif., participated as a “Big Kid” sponsor for this year’s 31st edition of the annual Valley Children’s Hospital Kids Day event. The fundraiser sells a special Kids Day edition of The Fresno Bee in exchange for a donation to the hospital.
PenFed for Puerto Rico
Tysons, Va.-based Pentagon FCU, along with the Gary Sinise Foundation and American Airlines, hosted a benefit featuring the first-ever concert in Puerto Rico by Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band. The concert raised national awareness of Puerto Rico’s ongoing hurricane recovery needs and delivered a night of relief and entertainment for survivors on the island. Separately, PenFed made a $25,000 donation to the U.S. Army Women’s Foundation.
Welcome to the shark tank
SECU Maryland, Linthicum, Md., participated in the Pitch Dingman Competition, the University of Maryland’s business competition which awarded nearly $30,000 in seed funding to top student entrepreneurs in a “Shark Tank”-style pitch session. In addition to co-sponsoring the competition, SECU took part in the judging.
$5,000 in scholarships
New England FCU, Williston Vt., awarded five, $1,000 scholarships to members of the Vermont National Guard.

Silent auction makes a big impact
Capitola, Calif.-based Bay FCU’s annual silent auction generated $12,001 for LEO’s Haven and the Chanticleer Park Neighbors Association. The association is working to build an inclusive playground called LEO’s Haven at Chanticleer County Park, the county’s first inclusive playground for children of all abilities.
IC expands
Fitchburg, Mass.-based IC Federal Credit Union expanded into the Marlborough area. The branch is located in the new Apex Entertainment Complex on Route 20, has modern technology and will allow IC to serve thousands of its members in the area.
Minivan donation
Park Community CU, Louisville, presented the Refuge for Women with a Chrysler minivan. Refuge is a non-profit that provides a safe place for women who have escaped human trafficking or sexual exploitation.

Financial Center First recognized
Indianapolis-based Financial Center First CU received four national awards for financial literacy and community outreach from CUNA: first place DesJardins Adult Financial Education Award, first place Dora Maxwell Award, second place Louise Herring Philosophy in Action Award, and honorable mention DesJardins Youth Financial Education Award.
More than just a paper heart
Members and employees of Northland Area FCU, Oscoda, Mich., raised $2,302.89 for Hearts for Hospice through the sale of paper hearts. Donors have the opportunity to write the name of a loved one on the heart prior to it being posted at the participating business.

True Sky CU, Oklahoma City, Okla., held its annual meeting at the Moore Norman Technology Center in Oklahoma City.
