CU at the park

State Employees’ CU, Raleigh, N.C., and its SECU Foundation provided a $500,000 challenge grant for a new public park in downtown Raleigh – the North Carolina Freedom Park. The park will honor African-American leaders in the state who sought freedom and equality for all in North Carolina.

Raising funds to fight cancer

Employees of Louisiana FCU, LaPlace, La., and their families rallied together to raise funds and awareness at Relay for Life of St. James. In addition to sponsoring the event and selling lemonade at the relay, Louisiana FCU raised money by hosting a sweet auction. In total, the credit union raised $9,834 for the American Cancer Society.

Staff members volunteered their time to host a free Shred Day at Credit Union of Ohio's Hilliard, Ohio headquarters. More than 250 community members brought thousands of pounds of personal documents to be safely destroyed.

Westbury, N.Y.-based Nassau Educators FCU hosted a grand opening/ribbon-cutting ceremony for its Oceanside branch. The new branch is NEFCU’s 16th branch on Long Island.

Go Jazz and Stars!

Mountain America CU, West Jordan, Utah, donated $50 for every three-point basket made by the Utah Jazz and the Salt Lake City Stars during the 2017-18 season, with an additional $50 donation for every game-changing shot. The result was $72,600 given to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation, the largest donation in a single year made by Mountain America to the Foundation.

Mayoral proclamation

The City of Indianapolis honored Financial Center First CU by naming April 10 “Financial Center First Credit Union Day.” Signed by Mayor Joe Hogsett, the proclamation recognized Financial Center for its financial literacy and community outreach efforts.

Nine East Tennessee CUs gathered to celebrate the launch of the Credit Unions Cares Habitat for Humanity Build. The CUs are: Enrichment FCU, ETMA FCU, the Knoxville Area Chapter of Credit Unions, Knoxville Law Enforcement FCU, Knoxville TVA Employees CU, New South CU, ORNL Federal Credit Union, UT Federal Credit Union and Y-12 FCU.

In Houston, People’s Trust FCU joined the rest of East Downtown, or “EaDo” as native Houstonians reference it, by receiving its own mural by artist Shelbi Nicole.
