Reaching future generations
McLean, Va.-based Pentagon Federal Credit Union hosted a financial education event for Puerto Rican high school students in San Juan. The program immersed over 500 students in a curriculum that emphasized successful financial decision making.
Be a mentor
SAFE Credit Union in Folson, Calif., awarded a $20,000 grant to City Year, a group that mentors underserved schools in the Sacramento area.
Play ball
Some members of Carson City, Nev.-based Greater Nevada Credit Union won the opportunity to watch the Arizona Diamondbacks in action during some spring training games. Round-trip airfare, ground transportation, a two-night resort stay and a $100 gift card were other perks for those who went on the trip.
Appreciating members
Credit Union of Southern California in Anaheim, Calif., surprised members with $90,000 worth of gifts in 2018 through its new Whenever, However Appreciate Members, or WHAM, program. The program allocates money to the CU's 17 branches each month to spend exclusively on appreciating its members.
A new home
Forty new credit union members became homeowners thanks to a partnership between Affinity Plus Credit Union and the Federal Home Loan Bank. The Saint Paul, Minn.-based CU awarded $200,000 worth of grants to 40 members who became homeowners in 2018.
Going for the arts
Align Credit Union in Lowell, Mass., gave a local community college and arts center a $25,000 donation that will refurbish facilities and provide classroom instruction for students studying music, dance and theater.
School fundraiser
Over $244,000 was donated to education and local charities by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union during the 2018 school year. More than 125 employees of the Pasadena, Texas-based CU participated in the donation program.
A month of firsts
March marked the first month that Northwest Federal Credit Union in Herndon, Va., hosted a community partners fair in which local organizations met with the credit union to discuss volunteering opportunities.
Supporting nonprofits
In conjunction with its annual employee campaign, Warner Robins, Ga.-based Robins Financial Credit Union donated over $96,000 to the United Way of Central Georgia.
Achieving excellence
The mortgage team of Boulder, Colo.-based Elevations Credit Union was recognized as a 2019 Ellie Mae Hall of Fame award for both its return on investment and its "outstanding improvement in efficiency." The award was accepted in San Francisco during the Ellie Mae Experience 2019 User Conference.
