A helping hand for Habitat

Robins Financial CU, Warner, Robins, Ga., made a corporate donation to the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. In addition, a team of employees worked on three Habitat houses in Lynmore Estates for Habitat’s “Women Build Day.”

Align CU recognized

Align CU, Lowell, Mass., won three awards at the first annual Banking Choice Awards: first place for overall quality, and third place in customer service and technology for the North Shore. The awards were developed by The Warren Group and Customer Experience Solutions, which celebrate credit unions in Massachusetts that provide outstanding service to their members.

Classroom grants

TBA Credit Union, Traverse City, Mich., awarded two schools with classroom grants. The CU gave $1,000 to Northern Michigan Partnership to purchase a kiln for the Mosaic/Fused Glass course at the school, while Sarah DeKett was awarded an $800 grant to purchase art supplies for her classroom at Traverse Heights Elementary.

Golfing to give back

Diamond CU, Pottstown, Pa., said its 14th annual Diamond Credit Union Charity Golf Invitational raised $37,000 for the American Cancer Society. The donation was a Diamond tournament record, and brings the CU’s lifetime donation for the event to $371,401.

Financial Jeopardy

TruMark Financial CU hosted its 11th annual Financial Jeopardy competition at its headquarters in Fort Washington, Pa. Students had their personal finance knowledge tested in categories such as banking, credit, taxes, budgeting and investments. TruMark Financial awarded three scholarships: a $5,000 grand prize, $3,000 second prize and $2,000 third prize.

Fort Bragg FCU, Fayetteville, N.C., awarded scholarships to two Cumberland County high school seniors for their academic excellence and commitment to attending school. Justin Hagan won a $3,000 scholarship, while Tyshon Jenkins won a $2,000 scholarship.

Peach State gives back to vets

For the second year in a row, Peach State FCU, Lawrenceville, Ga., partnered with Purple Heart Homes to sponsor an approved local veteran to enable him to live safely and with dignity in his home. Local Vietnam veteran Gary Roseman and his wife Denise had their home renovated. Mr. Roseman was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1973-1978.

Math challenge

First Financial FCU, Lutherville, Md., partnered with Carroll County Public Schools to sponsor the Math 24 Tournament Challenge, featuring 15 elementary schools each sending a team of four “mathletes” in grades 3-5. The challenge required each team to make 24 from four numbers on a game card provided, using addition, subtraction, multiplication or division. Separately, the CU honored the Carroll County Teacher of the Year with $100 cash and $100 for school supplies.

Wisconsin-based PCM Credit Union marked its 60th anniversary at both its headquarters in Green Bay and its branch in Marinette with a week-long celebration. It also offered members amazing savings opportunities.

Showing teachers some love

Financial Plus CU, Flint, Mich., held a FPCU Loves Teachers Classroom Giveaway to address some of the additional expenses teachers face. The teacher with the most votes, Kalena Kenny from Hemlock Elementary, won a $1,500 classroom makeover. The CU awarded $500 mini classroom makeovers to teachers at two other schools.

Scholarships awarded

Elevations CU, Boulder, Colo., and its roundation awarded an all-time high $84,000 in scholarships to 33 local students at its annual Celebration of Community at Fiske Planetarium.
