Fill up your plate
Polish & Slavic Federal Credit Union celebrated Fat Thursday by serving Polish donuts, known as pączki, at its branches. Members ate over 4,000 of the donuts across the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based credit union's 19 branches.
Keep it casual
Employees of Greater Eastern Credit Union in Johnson City, Tenn., can wear casual clothing each Friday so long as they make a $5 donation. The funds, totaling more than $2,000, were pooled together throughout the year and donated to a local ministry.
Supporting the military
A $50,000 donation from PenFed Foundation in Alexandria, Va., to Bellevue West High School students will go toward building a new playground for an elementary school that serves active military families.
If the shoe fits
Lawrence, Mass.-based Merrimack Valley Credit Union along with Bridgewater Credit Union, which merged into Merrimack Valley and is a division of the institution, are hosting a shoe drive. For every pair of gently used shoes that are donated, $5 will be donated with a $10,000 donation cap.
Helping the hungry
Hawaii State Federal Credit Union donated $10,000 to the Hawaii Foodbank in the institution's 30th annual food drive. The Honolulu, Hawaii-based CU is accepting donations across its eight branches until April 12.
New turf
Pottstown, Pa.-based Diamond Credit Union celebrated the opening of a new 4,200-square foot branch that will be open six days a week.
Random winners
SEFCU in Albany, N.Y., sent $20,000 to 12 different nonprofits across the state of New York. Three members were randomly selected from each SEFCU branch to choose a charity, which would receive a $100 donation.
Supporting the Red Cross
Heath, Ohio-based Hopewell Federal Credit Union sent the American Red Cross a $500 check. The money was raised by allowing employees to dress casually for a $1 donation.
New furry friends
Members of AmeriCU in Rome, N.Y., were greeted by some furry friends when the credit union sponsored a local adoption center to pay them a visit.
Service dogs
Clinton Township, Mich.-based FreeStar Financial Credit Union donated over $1,800 to Pets for Vets. The nonprofit pairs service dogs with veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder or a traumatic brain injury.
