Wescom Credit Union said its online banking service, eBranch, has surpassed the 100,000-member milestone, meaning that approximately one-half of its members have signed on. The credit union attributed the success to the fact it has offered members an inter-institution transfer service since its inception in July 1999, and the fact it was also one of the first credit union online banking sites to offer online check images, electronic statements, and e-mail account alerts. The credit union said it saw a significant increase in the usage of eBranch after it began offering its BillPayer service for free to its members in June 2003. Prior to that time, 17% of Wescom's eBranch users paid to use the service. That has risen to 24% today.
