AMARILLO, Texas A convicted robber who stole $2,800 from Amarillo Community FCU at gunpoint during an armed robbery last September was sentenced to eight years in prison on Monday.
The federal judge told Bill Grimes, 51, she was sentencing him to the top of federal sentencing guidelines because of previous convictions and ordered him to pay $2,800 in restitution to the credit union.
Grimes apologized to his mother, the court and tellers at the credit union during the sentencing hearing and said he never intended to harm anyone during the robbery.
During the robbery, Grimes pulled a handgun, told the teller he did not need a withdrawal slip and told her to give him all the money. Grimes then fled on foot from the credit union, court records show.
