The Credit Union Central of British Columbia and the Credit Union Central of Ontario (the provincial equivalent of U.S. corporate credit unions) have called off a planned merger. The two Centrals said a number of provincial and federal laws involved in the merger were too much to overcome. The entities had announced plans to merge in October of 2000, with their member credit unions slated to approve the merger in 2002.
