State Employees Credit Union here said it closed 2004 by exceeding its goal of selling 25,000 "bluebird boxes" as part of its "Bluebird Project." The aim of the project, which is in conjunction with Frank Newell and his volunteers at Eastern Bluebird Rescue Group, is to provide natural habitats for North Carolina's rapidly dwindling bluebird population through the sale of bluebird boxes.
SECU sold the boxes for $10 each-the amount required to construct the expertly crafted boxes. "We might look into worm farms next to balance supply with demand," observed CEO Jim Blaine. "It's a good problem to have and I think we can make it work, don't you?"
