WASHINGTON-Some 4,200 of the credit union faithful will descend on Capitol Hill this week as CUNA hosts its annual Governmental Affairs Conference Feb. 24-27.
The conference will feature a number of beltway movers and shakers, including Speaker of the House John Boehner (see related story, page 34) and a plethora of lawmakers from both sides of aisle, as well as former Republican National Committee Chair Hayley Barbour and former Democratic National Committee Chair Terry McAuliffe.
Credit unions will also hear from their regulators. In addition to all three NCUA Board members, Michael Cordray of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will also take the stage at GAC this year.
Well-known members of the media will also be on hand, including NBC's Tom Brokaw and journalist/author Jean Chatzky.

* LendKey will be raising money for the National Credit Union Foundation's Hurricane Sandy relief efforts, donating $5 for every business card posted at its Goodwill Wall at booth 347.
* CNBS is bringing Malawian student Christopher Hamera to the GAC as part of the special internship program the brokerage is offering.
* CUNA and the National Federation of Community Development CUs are hosting a roundtable Feb. 25 on changes to the Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) certification process and other CDFI-related issues. The roundtable will feature representatives from the CDFI Fund, U.S. Treasury Department, the Federation and CEOs from credit unions sharing best practices on leveraging CDFI certification.
* NCUF will be holding a Financial Reality Fair for local students at the Rayburn House Office Building Feb. 27.
