The California league placed an ad last week congratulating the banking industry on its third straight year of "record profits" in Roll Call, a newspaper circulated on Capitol Hill. The ad coincided with the annual meeting of America's Community Bankers. After noting the record profits, text in the ad reads, "Annual bank profits alone equal nearly one-fifth of all the total assets of all the credit union sin the United States." Text concludes, "Isn't it time for banks to invest as much of their profits into serving their customers as they spend on harassing America's credit unions and their 84 million members."
California league spokesperson Henry Kertman said the ads are part of a more aggressive approach being taken by the league.
The ACB also ran an ad attacking credit unions in the same newspaper.
