FORT WORTH, Texas – American Airlines FCU paid its members a $9.6 million year-end dividend, the biggest in the industry this year.
The bonus was based on dividends received on qualifying share accounts and/or interest paid on applicable loans during 2009. The dividends received and interest paid portion of the dividend was calculated as 4.1% of share dividends received on share accounts and 4.1% of interest paid on applicable loans from Jan. 1, 2009 through Nov. 30, 2009.
To recognize the most active and loyal members, an additional $50 bonus was distributed to those who participated in three or more of the eight major account categories.
The $5 billion credit union paid members an $11 million dividend for 2008.
This year’s dividend was made possible because of the credit union’s positive financials, which included a $45.3 million net for the first three quarters of 2009, even after a $34.1 million charge for the corporate credit union bailout.
