AmeriDream Charity Dropping The Charity

The AmeriDream Charity, Inc., which describes itself as the largest non-profit provider of down payment assistance to low- and moderate-income homebuyers, is changing its name slightly to AmeriDream, Inc.. Founded in 1999 with the launch of The AmeriDream Downpayment Gift Program, the group says the new name reflects expansion into a variety of other programs. Since 1999, it says it has helped 95,000 families become homeowners, but now also operates the AmeriDream Redevelopment Program, which renovates and rehabilitates distressed properties and returns them to the market at prices affordable to low- and moderate-income homebuyers.

Thus far, AmeriDream has spent more than $8 million to rehabilitate properties and return them to the market at affordable prices in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and Florida, with plans to expand nationally.
