LANSING, Mich. Lansing Automakers FCU has been approved to convert to a state charter and expand its field of membership to eight surrounding counties, which contain approximately 800,000 people.
The $530-million credit union will change its name to Lansing Automakers Financial CU, in order to retain the LAFCU moniker.
The credit union plans to expand service beyond its current tri-county area into Barry, Calhoun, Gratiot, Ionia, Jackson, Livingston, Montcalm and Shiawassee counties.
Total cost of conversion will be $130,000, which will include $80,000 a year in state sales taxes, according to LAFCU.
