NORWOOD, Ohio – A man who tried to rob a Wright-Patt CU branch here yesterday bolted shirtless from the credit union after a tussle with an off-duty police officer and was arrested running down the street shortly afterward.
The man walked into the credit union past a uniformed Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputy, according to police. The man was wearing a knit cap on his head – something no longer permitted at several credit unions around the area. Many also ban the wearing of sunglasses and sweatshirts where the hood is covering the head.
The deputy asked the man to remove his cap. The man dismissed the deputy’s order and brushed past him to hand the teller a note stating the credit union was being robbed.
The deputy struggled with the man – at first inside the credit union’s lobby before it carried out the door – while the robber lost his coat and shirt in the struggle. The robber then ran bare-chested out of the credit union into the below-freezing air. Someone from within the branch then called police to say the credit union had just been robbed.
Police arrested the bare-chested, would-be robber at gunpoint, about a block from the credit union.
