TUKWILA, Wash. – Boeing Employees CU became one of the first MasterCard issuers to roll-out a new college saving program that rewards members with college savings with the use of their debit cards. The program, offered by MasterCard at college savings company Upromise, allows cardholders to earn savings on purchases made at 23,000 grocery stores, 14,000 gas stations and 8,000 restaurants. Cardholders will have the option of having the funds deposited into a tax-deductible 529 College Savings plan through Upromise. BECU joined three other mainstream financial institutions, BancorpSouth, BankAtlantic and Provident Bank, in rolling out the new MasterCard program. Upromise was acquired recently by Sallie Mae.
