TUKWILA, Wash. – BECU said yesterday it is discontinuing its mobile banking apps for Android and Blackberry smartphones at the end of this month as it transitions to a new third-party vendor.
The credit union giant is working to develop a new mobile banking app for Android with its new vendor Clairmail, which it expects to have available around March, according to Todd Pietzsch, spokesman for BECU.
Meantime, Android and Blackberry users can still access the credit union’s mobile banking through BECU’s WAP protocol at its website, Pietzsch told the Credit Union Journal yesterday.
Mobile banking users will still be able to use BECU’s iPhone app.
The move comes as BECU is transitioning from Firethorn, which is exiting the mobile banking market, to Clairmail.
BECU has about 50,000 mobile banking users, about 90% of whom use iPhone or Android.
