WYOMISSING, Penn. – Bellco FCU said it has agreed to merge with Berks Community FCU, an ailing credit union of similar size.
Berks Community, a $48 million credit union based in nearby Reading, reported a loss of $235,000 for 2008 and an operating loss of $126,000 for the first quarter of 2009.
Bellco has $57 million in assets and it eked out a $186,000 net for 2008 and a $8,946 operating net for the first quarter of the year.
Berks has about 7,000 members and Bellco about 8,000.
Bellco FCU will be the name of the combined institutions.
