FREEPORT, N.Y. – A Bethpage FCU member last week was charged with using false information to open accounts electronically, then using the accounts to steal $60,000.

Osman Ilgaz, 50, obtained a $30,000 loan, then paid off the loan with fraudulent checks from another financial institution, police said. He later withdrew an additional $30,000 before those checks were returned for insufficient funds.
The credit union lost $60,000 as a result of the transactions, which occurred April 18.
