MANCHESTER, N.H.-America's first credit union, St. Mary's Bank, will celebrate its centennial-and the 100-year milestone of the birth of the credit union movement-on Nov. 24, 2008. Credit Union Journal will be on hand to recreate that historical moment when Joseph Boivon accepted the very first deposit using period re-enactors.
The event, in conjunction with CO-OP Financial Services, will take place in the very same office where the CU movement began, in a three-story, hillside house on Notre Dame Ave. that overlooked the local textile mills. That office, like the building that houses it, is all part of America's Credit Union Museum. Video coverage of the proceedings will be made available on www.cujournal.com, while additional coverage will appear in the print issue of Credit Union Journal.
