The $600 million credit union promoted its name-change with five TV spots broadcast on NBC’s local affiliate KSNT, Channel 8 during the game an additional five spots during the pregame, halftime and postgame shows. Credit union officials would not disclose the price, but said it cost less than it is spending to change signs at its 15 branches.

The new name--Meritrust–is a combination of the words "merit" and "trust" and was chosen from an initial list of 400 names considered to replace Boeing Wichita CU.

The credit union was chartered in 1936 by employees of Stearman Aircraft Co., which later became Boeing.
