Branch Manager Charged With Falsifying Loans

MADISON, Wis. – A former branch manager at Dane County CU was accused yesterday of falsifying loans to family members for more than $36,000, then using the money herself.

Jacqueline Smith, 32, of Oregon, Wis., told police that she had gotten too far in debt, was working two jobs while her husband was in school and had credit cards that she was having a hard time paying off.

The credit union uncovered the alleged thefts in April 2010. Smith’s relatives told authorities they knew nothing about the loans taken out between 2008 and 2010.
