- WASHINGTON (04/12/00) - Democratic senators haveapparently agreed with their Republican counterparts to separatecontroversial provisions on a minimum wage hike and tax breaks fromthe bankruptcy reform bill, easing way for final passage of thecredit union-backed measure. An effort to separate thecontroversial provisions was opposed by two Democratic senatorslast month, holding up a conference to iron out differences betweenHouse and Senate versions of the bankruptcy bill. The bankruptcybill, aimed at making it more difficult for individuals to erasedebts under the bankruptcy code, is expected to be one of only afew major bills to pass this Congress because of its broadbipartisan support in both chambers.
