...But How Quickly Will It Move?

Both CUNA and NAFCU continue to plug away at garnering support for regulatory relief efforts in general and the Credit Union Regulatory Improvement Act in particular, but CU lobbyists were split on how quickly credit unions will see action on this front.

NAFCU's Brad Thaler suggested that as both chambers have had hearings on the issue, a mark-up of the bill could happen sometime after the July 4 recess but before the August recess.

But CUNA's Gary Kohn wasn't so sanguine. "It's apparent to those who were hopeful of swift action...that that is not likely to occur," he said. "We try to interpret all kinds of things, and who attended is always a clue. There were not many there. Obviously, they didn't believe this was a pressing issue."
