SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A data security bill sponsored by the California CU League once again is working its way through the California state legislature. The California Assembly’s Judiciary Committee unanimously approved the legislation and sent it on to the Assembly Appropriations Committee, where it is slated to be considered before Aug. 31.
The bill was introduced by Sacramento Assemblyman Dave Jones–who introduced similar, CCUL-backed legislation last year. CCUL said it is the first step in renewed efforts to force California retailers and government agencies to protect consumers’ sensitive financial data, and to force them to take responsibility for any unauthorized access of that information.
