SACRAMENTO, Calif. The California state Senate unanimously confirmed Teveia Barnes as commissioner of the state Department of Financial Institutions, an agency that regulates more than 300 state chartered credit unions and banks.
Gov. Jerry Brown made the appointment last year and the Senate on Monday confirmed Barnes, 59, who previously was a law partner with Foley and Lardner LLP in San Francisco. She has more than 35 years of industry experience, including 13 years in various roles at Bank of America.
She also served as president of Lawyers For One America, a nonprofit group that promotes diversity in the legal field and provides pro bono services to underserved communities in Northern California.
Barnes, a Democrat, earns $142,965 a year.
