Caretaker Drained Disabled Member’s VyStar CU Account

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The caretaker of a disabled member of VyStar CU was sentenced to 10 years in state prison for stealing $56,000 from the member’s account.

Gail Rivers, 46, pleaded guilty to exploitation of a disabled adult. Rivers was employed as a caretaker for two elderly and disabled women. She took one of the victims to VyStar to withdraw $56,000 and close out the victim’s account. Rivers then placed the money in two separate accounts with Wachovia that she could access.

Rivers has been ordered to pay $56,000 in restitution.
