CDCU Planned For Kalamazoo’s Depressed Neighborhood

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Community activists have applied to NCUA to charter a community development credit union for the Washington Square area of Kalamazoo’s Edison neighborhood, part of the community’s revitalization effort.

Plans call for the new CDCU to be housed in a former adult bookstore, which was shuttered in 2005, along with the Deja Vu strip club and an adult video store.

The neighborhood revitalization efforts also include the recent opening of a new supermarket and newly renovated apartments.

The main sponsor of the CDCU is the Edison Neighborhood Association.
