THREE RIVERS, Mich. – The former president of St. Joseph Valley Community FCU, merged out two weeks ago, was charged last week with embezzling more than $100,000 from the tiny credit union by paying herself 18 extra weeks’ salary and for numerous days she was off on disability pay.
Kristen Taft, 57, had been put on administrative leave in March when questions about financial improprieties were raised and her failing $6 million credit union was merged earlier this month into Kellogg Community FCU, in nearby Battle Creek.
Taft allegedly misappropriated credit union funds by charging personal expenses to her company credit card between 2004 and 2007, and by paying herself for 18 weeks she didn’t work between 2004 and 2007, and by paying herself for days she also received disability between 2008 and 2011.
Taft turned herself into authorities Thursday after an arrest warrant was issued.
