CEO Charged With Stealing Funds By Overpaying Himself

BURLINGTON, Vt. – The former president and CEO of River Valley CU was charged yesterday with embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars by taking extra salary, bonuses and other payments over a four year-period before he was fired in 2005.

Gary Ellis, 56, entered a not guilty plea Monday in U.S. District Court in Burlington.

If convicted, Ellis could get 30 years and have to pay $1 million in fines.
