SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Check printer Harland Clarke said yesterday it is shutting its check printing plant in nearby Salina, which employs 101 people.

The company informed employees Tuesday of the shutdown that will take place in November. It also will close a plant in Chicago later this year.
The Salina plant was founded in 1986 by American Bank Stationary. That company was later acquired by Clarke American Corp.
Employees of the Salina plant will be able to apply for openings at the company's other locations. It operates 16 plants nationwide.
