CHiPs Gun Down CU Robber

An Oklahoma parolee who robbed The Golden One CU was killed by a California Highway Patrol officer who had stopped him for speeding in the San Bernardino County desert.

Douglas Len Murrin, 48, of Oklahoma City, was pulled over by a CHP officer then pulled a gun and yelled something. When he did not comply with the officer's demand to drop his weapon, the officer shot Murrin and knocked him to the ground.

When Murrin continued to reach for his gun, the officer fired again and killed him, a CHP spokesman said.

"When the incident occurred we had no information that he was wanted," Steve Kohler, the spokesman told The Credit Union Journal.

Murrin was identified as the man who entered The Golden One CU's Clovis branch earlier this month and demanded a teller turn over all of her $100 bills.
