Christian Community CEO to step down after 45 years of service

Christian Community CU, San Dimas, Calif., announced its long-time president and CEO, John Walling, will retire at the end of July.

The $640 million credit union’s EVP David Estridge will serve as interim CEO effective Aug. 1 while the board conducts a search for Walling’s successor. Board Chairman John Pearson said the credit union will work with an executive search firm and will consider both external and internal candidates.

During the credit union’s 60th annual meeting recently, the board honored Walling for his 45 years of service at Christian Community. During his tenure, the credit union — originally called American Baptist Credit Union — grew from $7 million in assets and 5,000 members to $640 million and 30,000 members.

He has served as a board member of PSCU, and also won the California & Nevada Credit Union Leagues’ 2012 “Unsung Hero” award.

“My 45 years have been an incredibly blessed experience in working with our outstanding staff and supportive and encouraging board of directors and supervisory committee,” Walling said in a statement. “The credit union’s continued success is a collective effort of many people over many years. I give thanks to God for placing me in this position and for the elected officials, management team and staff as they continue to serve the members of Christian Community Credit Union.”
