DeWITT, N.Y. – NPG Employees FCU may be faced with the closure of its original sponsor group, but that won’t stop the $48 million credit union, chartered 52 years ago to serve employees of the New Process Group auto parts plant here.
Fresh off a merger with Canandaigua V.A. Employee FCU, the new credit union has changed its name to FocalPoint FCU. FocalPoint had previously expanded into Chittenango through a merger with the Madison County School Employees FCU.
The credit union was founded in 1957 by employees of auto parts manufacturer New Process Gear and members of United Auto Workers Local 624. Over the years it added members from many trade unions and supplier companies associated with New Process Gear and other manufacturers. Magna International which now owns NPG, has announced plans to close the New Process Gear plant.
