WASHINGTON - CUNA said it continued last month to cultivate the next generation of lawmakers, with campaign contributions to five candidates for open House seats.
CUNA made $5,000 contributions to Republican State Rep. Steve Scalise, campaigning for the 1st District in Louisiana, which was vacated by Republican Bobby Jindal, who was elected Governor; and to Democratic City Councilor Andre Carson, who won the special election for his grandmother Julia Carson’s 7th District House seat in Indiana, after Julia Carson died. CUNA has contributed a total of $10,000 contributed to each candidate this year.
Also receiving CUNA contributions were: $5,000 to Republican Party operative Gregg Harper, running for Mississippi’s 3rd District, $5000, (incumbent Chip Pickering was named interim Senator); $2,000 to Republican State Rep. Aaron Schock, running for Illinois’ 18th District (Republican Ray Lahood retired) and $5,000 to Republican State Sen. Brett Guthrie, running for Kentucky’s 2nd District (Republican Ron Lewis retired).
Campaign contributions also went last month to several leadership PACs, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s PAC to the Future ($5,000); Alabama Rep. Spencer Bachus’s Growth and Prosperity PAC ($5,000); Nevada Sen. John Ensign’s Battle Born PAC ($5,000) and Maine Rep. Mike Michaud’s Mill to the Hill PAC ($5,000).
