QUERETARO, Mexico - (04/01/05) Six Congressional staff members visitedCaja Libertad earlier this week as part of a week-long fact-findingtour of credit union development projects. Organized andco-sponsored by the World Council of Credit Unions, Inc.(WOCCU),CUNA, and the Arizona, California and Texas leagues, the trip isthe first of its kind to explore international credit uniondevelopment projects, according to WOCCU. The trip to CajaLibertad, Mexico's second largest credit union with more than500,000 members, included briefings by top credit union officials,and visits to two local branches to visit with branch staff andcredit union members. Caja Libertad has been particiapting inWOCCU's International Partnership Program and is partnered with theArizona Credit Union System. In October 2004, leaguerepresentatives attended the launching of the first non-bank ATMsystem in Mexico. WOCCU has five projects total in Mexico, three ofwhich the group are to see during the trip.
