COO To Succeed Longtime CEO At Alaska’s Credit Union 1

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Credit Union 1 announced that Leslie Ellis, its president for 30 years, is retiring at year-end and Tom Newins, chief operating officer for the $860-million credit union, will succeed her.

Ellis, who joined the credit union in 1981 and became CEO in 1983, will continue on as a consultant to the board.

Newins has more than 21 years of experience at Credit Union 1. He graduated from Western CUNA Management School this summer.

“Tom’s leadership skills, in-house experience, and commitment to Credit Union 1’s culture, members and employees make him a great fit for moving Credit Union 1 forward,” said Roger Aldrich, the credit union’s board chairman.
