Jacksonville Daily Record detailed VyStar CU's new Real Estate Services unit. The story provided coverage of the benefits of the service, and quoted Dan Braithwaite, broker and SVP with VyStar Real Estate. "We are doing some things that aren't usually done, we provide home inspection and title work in advance to save from any problems occurring during the process."
The Dallas Morning News followed up an earlier report in the Wall Street Journal headlined, "Mortgage-Market Trouble Reaches Big Credit Unions" by localizing the story and stating in a financial column, "Stay calm. There's no imminent collapse of credit unions, and your insured deposits are fully backed by the federal government." The story noted most consumers were unfamiliar with the corporate CUs that were featured in the Journal report, and provided some background. NCUA Spokesperson John McKechnie was quoted as saying the corporates' issues are "ripples in the water."
The Pittsburgh Tribune Review, in a story that noted "it doesn't take much to rattle the average credit union," profiled how small credit unions can be affected by just a few problems. The story included interviews with $2-million P.N.G. Northern FCU's Manager Daniel Peppler, and noted the CU is labeled as "problematic" by ratings firm Bauer Financial. Also on the list and included in the story was the $5.2-million Trailblazer FCU, which showed a loss of $2,700 in the first quarter.
