HARRISBURG, Penn.-Pennsylvania State Employees CU's lack of branches is the subject of a new TV campaign from the CU that was highlighted in the Patriot-News. The newspaper provided coverage of PSECU's campaign urging people to dump their bank branches and "go branchless." The credit union said it is the first time it has advertised its lack of a physical branch network. Instead, it serves its 325,000 members through free ATMs, online access and mail.

ARVADA, Colo.-The opening of a branch by Coors Credit Union here received coverage from MileHighNews.com, which reported the credit union had revamped its service with "several programs designed to help children, young adults and their families become financially literate. The report cited CCU's twofold goal: help parents raise financially responsible kids and to expand the credit union's base of lifelong members.

SAN JOSE, Calif.-Sys-Con Media provided coverage of work by 20 members and employees from Technology Credit Union to help construct a new, affordable home in North San Jose for a local family. The home is part of the Silicon Valley Habitat for Humanity Murphy Avenue Project. "We had a lot of enthusiasm for this project among our members and employees-so much in fact, that we had to turn volunteers away," the report quoted Kathleen Litman, VP of marketing for Tech CU as saying. The report further noted that the building day had grown out of Tech CU's Community Spirit Day, which is aimed at raising awareness among individuals about how they can volunteer or donate in 2007.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.-Expansion by credit unions into commercial lending, particularly by Navy FCU, received extensive coverage in the Virginian-Pilot. The story profiled one member who borrowed $200,000 to launch a franchise for stores to sell Hawaiian coffee and smoothies called "Maui Wowie," and then detailed overall statistics on credit union business lending, which it reported hit $19 billion during 2006. A CUNA source was also quoted in the story, which went on to identify other CUs in the market also making business loans, including ABNB Federal, 1st Advantage FCU, Newport News Shipbuilding Employees' CU, Chartway FCU.
