CU-Backed Dwolla Gets New Venture Funds

DES MOINES, Iowa – Dwolla, a credit union-financed, low-cost payments company, on Tuesday said it raised $5 million in new venture capital funds.

The funding comes from Union Square Ventures, Village Ventures, Thrive Capital, Artists and Instigators, and Paige Craig of Betterworks. As part of the deal, Albert Wenger, a partner in Union Square, will join the Dwolla board.

The Members Group and Veridian CU also are early Dwolla investors.
