- ALEXANDRIA, Va. (03/01/00) - NCUA said it approved25 credit union mergers in January, keeping pace with last yearwhen 366 mergers, the most in four years, were approved. The vastmajority of January's mergers, or 21, involved a small credit unionunder $5 million being merged out of existence. The biggest mergersapproved in January: Hughes Aircraft Employees FCU, ManhattanBeach, Calif. ($1.9 billion) with Santa Monica Consumers CU, SantaMonica, Calif. ($12 million); Credit Union of Denver, Lakewood,Colo. ($212 million) with Tramco CU, Denver ($6 million); SouthTexas Area Resources CU, Corpus Christi, Texas ($26 million) withMecca FCU, Corpus Christi ($6 million); and School District 50 FCU,Denver ($44 million) with GW FCU, Denver ($6 million).
