SANTA ROSA, Calif. – A career bank robber was sentenced last week to 45 years to life in state prison the August armed robbery of $50,000 from the Redwood CU branch in nearby Point Arena.
Frederick Orlando, 55, who was arrested with his son-in-law for the credit union heist, has been linked to at least two other area bank robberies. In all three hold-ups, the robbers herded customers and employees into a vault or back room so they had access to all teller stations, not just one.
Orlando served more than 11 years in federal prison for a 1990 conviction in four southern California bank robberies.
Orlando told authorities he blamed the financial industry for investment losses suffered by him and his wife and he returned to bank robbery because he felt wronged.
Orlando’s 39-year-old son-in-law, Raymon Ojeda, has pleaded guilty to the credit union robbery and is awaiting sentencing.
