17 NY CUs Complete Hispanic Outreach Training Program

DES MOINES, Iowa-Seventeen New York credit unions have completed a six month interactive, Hispanic outreach training program to provide a framework for growing by reaching the Hispanic market.

Coopera Consulting, an Iowa-based consulting firm focused on Hispanic market strategies, partnered with the Credit Union Association of New York to prepare and educate credit unions on how to grow by reaching the Hispanic market through Coopera's 4Ps educational framework focusing on: Personnel, Products, Processes and Promotion/Marketing.

Coopera, which owned by the Iowa CU League, will continue working with those credit unions that are ready to implement the outreach plan in their communities.

Tucscon FCU Earns SBA-Certified Lending Status

TUCSON, Ariz.-Tucson Federal Credit Union has become a Small Business Administration-sponsored lender, allowing the CU to add its full line of business services which includes commercial lending, EFTPS for tax processing, and merchant services.

The SBA guarantee allows TFCU to expand its lending services to meet the needs of more small businesses in Pima County.

USDA Approves Scott CU For Mortgage Program

COLLINSVILLE, Ill.-Scott CU has signed an agreement with USDA to offer area residents mortgage loans through the state's Guaranteed Rural Housing program.

Through the program, Scott can offer loans to moderate-income families and individuals to purchase an existing or new home in rural areas with a population of less than 25,000. The loans are fixed-rate, 30-year mortgages for up to 100% of the appraised value of the homes.

Under the rural housing program, moderate income is defined as 115% of the area median income.

RMJ Foundations Presents Annual Beacon Awards

SAN FRANCISCO-San Francisco-based Mission SF FCU, Travis CU in Vacaville, Calif., and Timothy Allen of AltaOne FCU in Ridgecrest, Calif., received the 2008 Beacon Awards from the Richard Myles Johnson (RMJ) Foundation, its highest honor. Mission SF FCu was recognized for a program targeting youth and low-income markets. Travis CU was recognized for its multi-level financial literacy program. Allen was recognized for developing a Substitute Teacher Program, where he volunteers as a substitute teacher and teaches the National Endowment for Financial Education curriculum.

NCUF Grant Enables Training For 100 CDCU Board Members

NEW YORK-A $35,000 Innovation Grant from the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) to the National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions will enable at least 100 CDCU board members and management staff to attend CDCU Institute training workshops this year. Designed by the NFCDCU in partnership with CUNA's Center for Professional Development, the Institute provides a customized forum where CDCUs "acquire professional skills needed to increase membership, expand products and services, and strengthen net worth. The NCUF has approved a total of $370,000 in grants for the CDCU Institute during the past four years.  Also planned for 2009 is a new module on Individual Development Accounts (IDAs).
