Lieberman. asupporter of the war in Iraq, is in a close primary race withanti-war Democrat Ned Lamont, which will culminate in thestates primary Aug. 8. CUNA said it spend $60,000 on itsdirect mailing on behalf of Lieberman, a long-time credit unionsupporter. The effort was done as a so-called independent campaignexpenditure, which cannot be coordinated with thecandidate.
