CUNA Allocates Money To Open House Seats

CUNA began last month targeting several open House races-those with no incumbent running-with campaign funding.

Among those candidates receiving CUNA campaign donations were: Albio Sires, a Democratic state Assemblyman running in New Jersey's 13th District ($2,500); Adrian Smith, a Republican state Senator running in Nebraska's 3rd District ($5,000); Kevin McCarthy, a Republican state Assemblyman running in California's 22nd District ($5,000); and Jean Schmidt, an Ohio Republican elected in a recent special election ($2,500). CUNA also contributed $5,000 last month to the campaign of freshman Rep. Michael Fitzpatrick (R-PA), who is in a close race for reelection.

CUNA also continued to shuffle funding to congressional leaders, with $2,500 going to newly elected House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and another $5,000 to Boehner's leadership PAC known as The Freedom Project; $4,500 going to Republican Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Thomas Reynolds (R-NY); and $5,000 contributions to Volunteer PAC, the leadership PAC for Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-TN) and Future Leaders PAC, the leadership PAC for House Appropriations Chairman Jerry Lewis (R-CA).
