CUNA made $99,000 in congressional campaign contributions last month, most of it targeted at House and Senate leaders, or lawmakers sponsoring CU-favored legislation.
The largest contributions in August went to: House Majority Leader Tom Delay (R-TX), $5,000); Senate Majority Whip Mitch McConnell (R-KY), $5,000; to the Keep Our Majority PAC, operated by House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL), $5,000); and the Growth and Prosperity PAC, operated by Financial Services Subcommittee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-AL), $3,000.
Also receiving $5,000 contributions were, Rep. Chris Chocola (R-IN), Florida State Rep. Nancy Detert, a Republican running for the House seat held by Katherine Harris, who is running for the Senate and Ohio State Rep. Chuck Blasdel, a Republican running for the House seat being vacated by Ted Strickland, the Democrat who is running for Governor. CUNA also donated $2,000 to the campaign for Rep. Jeb Hensarling, the Texas Republican who drafted the pending regulatory relief bill.
