CUNA Mutual Contract Bars Lay Offs For One Year

MADISON, Wis. – A new four-year contract between CUNA Mutual Group and its employees union includes a one-year moratorium on employee cutbacks in Madison, one of the big sticking points in previous contracts.

Since the last contract was ratified in 2005, the number of union jobs in Madison has declined to 862 from 1,200. CUNA Mutual has a total of 4,060 employees in the U.S., with 1,960 of those in Madison.

The contract with the Office of Professional Employees International Union includes a 12-month moratorium on layoffs as a result of outsourcing, subcontracting or transfer of work of union staff and provides pay raises of 2% and 3%. The deal also offers voluntary buyouts for up to 165 long-term employees.
