Credit Union Miracle Day Inc., the title sponsor of the run, raised $483,000 this year for the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals under the umbrella of Credit Unions for Kids. Credit unions have raised more than $6 million for nation's children’s hospitals over the past 12 years.

This year dozens of members of the House and Senate will line up with 15,000 runners at the starting line, along with some of the world’s best distance runners. “We are extremely grateful for this outstanding support from Congress, as well as the credit unions and their business partners,” said Charlie Mallon, president of Congressional FCU, and a director of CU Miracle Day. "With nearly 800 staffers competing in this year’s race, and fielding 70 teams, the Capitol Hill Competition will be spirited."

Among the world class runners competing are Boston Half-Marathon record holder and 2012 Credit Union Cherry Blossom champion Allan Kiprono and 2012 Cherry Blossom runner-up Lani Kiplagat, and U.S. Olympians Jen Rhines and Colleen De Reuck, who are running in the women’s race.
